Jana had recently left an abusive relationship. Dishonest and dangerous, this man had lied to and manipulated her. His violence made her fear for her life. When she found out she might be pregnant, Jana said motherhood was not an option. Having a baby meant this man would come back into her life. That’s when Jana came to The Colorado Springs Pregnancy Center. She said she didn’t want to talk about parenting or adoption. She had already made her decision and just wanted to know more about abortion.
The nurse who met with Jana gave her the information she was looking for. Jana received the facts she needed about the procedure while also learning about the development of her unborn baby. Before leaving, she had a limited OB ultrasound. For any woman considering abortion, an ultrasound is an important first step. It gives her an accurate gestational age, which determines what kind of procedure she is eligible for. It also determines viability and whether she has an intrauterine pregnancy, both important factors that influence whether it’s safe for her to proceed with the abortion. An ultrasound also gives her the chance to see, and connect with, her unborn child. She is faced with the reality that she is not carrying an inanimate clump of cells. A tiny person is growing inside her.
When Jana saw her ultrasound, she saw her baby. A tiny heartbeat on the screen. Jana knew she could never have an abortion. In that moment, her mind and heart were changed. She chose life for her baby.
That was a year ago. Jana found both the courage to be a mother AND the support she needed to be the best mom possible.
During her pregnancy, Jana participated in the parenting program to help prepare her for motherhood. The Colorado Springs Pregnancy Center helped her learn what it means to have a personal relationship with Jesus.
Just two days after giving birth, Jana was baptized. Now, eager to grow in the Lord, she attends a weekly Bible study. The Lord is working in her life.
