Kelsey (not her real name) wasn’t ready to become a mom. Not yet, at least. Kelsey wanted to complete college first. Plus, her boyfriend, Kyle (not his real name), was focused on finishing his law degree.
When Kelsey discovered her pregnancy, she didn’t know what the future would hold. “When I found out I was pregnant, I thought I’d have to leave school,” Kelsey reveals. “I just felt embarrassed.”
Kelsey’s family was pushing her toward abortion. And the weight of that decision felt heavy to bear alone.
Kelsey arrived for her initial appointment feeling afraid. But she felt heard. And because Kelsey had a background of faith, she found comfort in hearing God would be by her side.
Kelsey soon found the clarity and courage she needed. Then, the answer came. “I decided I wasn’t going to have an abortion. Then, I kept asking God to use this for our good.”
Together, Kelsey and her patient advocate prayed for peace. And for the path ahead.
Meanwhile, Kyle was facing his own inner struggles. He worried, “How will I balance law school, a job and a child?”
Still feeling unsure, Kyle agreed to join Kelsey at her follow-up ultrasound. As soon as the couple saw their baby’s heartbeat, they both began to cry.
Suddenly, something miraculous happened inside Kyle. “I was a staunch atheist, but when I heard my son’s heartbeat, this click happened that helped me understand what love was.”
Kelsey remembers that life-changing moment for Kyle. “I saw him actually get touched by the Holy Spirit. At that point, everything changed.”
“Everything about my boyfriend has changed. He’s a completely new person. It’s a miracle,” Kelsey shares.
The couple continued to receive counseling and care at the center throughout their pregnancy.
“I’m grateful to have a healthy baby who’s full of life. I’m just so thankful. When no one else supported me, YOU did.”
Today, Kelsey and Kyle are plugged into church and serving faithfully. Kelsey’s on sabbatical from school, while Kyle is working full-time, pursuing his law degree at night. “I saw God change Kyle‘s heart,” Kelsey says. “He loves our son so much.”
