Standing with Students When Life Takes an Unexpected Turn
A new bill advancing in the Colorado legislature is seeking to expand access to abortion in a place many young women call home: their college campus.
House Bill 26-1335 would require state universities and colleges with student health centers to provide abortion medication on-site. Schools with pharmacies would need to stock the drugs, while others would be required to prescribe them through affiliated providers. Supporters say the goal is to make abortion more accessible for students.
For many young women, college is already a season marked by transition, pressure, and uncertainty. When an unexpected pregnancy enters that picture, the weight can feel overwhelming. This legislation would place abortion access directly into that environment, making it easier and more immediate to vulnerable students.
And, it would do so without requiring medical safeguards that protect women’s health and safety. There is no requirement for an in-person medical evaluation, no guaranteed screening for ectopic pregnancy, and no assurance that campuses are equipped to respond when serious complications occur.
At Life Network, we regularly meet college-age women trying to process an unexpected pregnancy while balancing school, finances, relationships, and expectations from others. They are searching for clarity but often feel trapped by their circumstances and unsure where to turn.
College-age women deserve better than being handed abortion drugs and left alone to navigate the physical and emotional consequences that can follow. They deserve compassionate care, clear medical oversight, and lasting support systems that protect their health and well-being.
Update on Charity’s Story
You may remember a story I shared in my January email about how Charity*, a young college student, came to our Westside center when she found herself pregnant.
This center sits just down the road from an abortion clinic. On that same street, in the same moment of uncertainty, Charity had a choice about which door to walk through.
Because of you, she chose our Westside center and not the abortion clinic. She chose a place where she would be met with care and the love of Christ. As you may recall, Charity and her boyfriend chose life. But that wasn’t the end of their story.
Our nurse provided early pregnancy care while Charity waited for her first OB appointment. She received medical support, clear information, and the reassurance that she did not have to figure everything out on her own.
It is not easy for Charity. Even in the latter stages of pregnancy, she is still in school, and real challenges lie ahead. Because of your partnership, Charity and her boyfriend are not walking through this alone. We are able to come alongside her, together for life.
Charity’s story is a reminder that pregnancy in college does not mean a woman has to quit. With the right support, it’s possible to keep moving forward.
Reaching Students Where They Are
Because of you, Life Network can be present on college campuses like UCCS through our student ministry outreach. These efforts are building relationships, starting conversations, and making sure students know there is a place they can turn if they ever find themselves in an unexpected situation.
A college student facing an unexpected pregnancy needs more than a quick solution. She needs support, wisdom, and the freedom to make a thoughtful decision without being rushed. She needs to know that her future is not over.
Thank you for standing with Life Network in this mission. Your partnership is helping ensure that women like Charity are not left to navigate these moments alone, but are met with care, truth, and hope.
If you haven’t yet signed up to Walk for Life, now is the time! Please join us on June 6 as we come together to provide life-affirming care for women, men, and babies across our community.
